Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley will headline a special September event at a city sports bar located just moments from the stadium where he built his reputation. The former forward will share tales from his playing career with supporters at Shark Club on Gallowgate, answering their questions and posing for photographs.
As previously announced, Beardsley also has another engagement scheduled, joining former teammates Nolberto Solano, Rob Lee, John Beresford and Micky Quinn for an October 12 gathering at the O2 City Hall. However, the September appearance at Shark Club comes first.
The venue, situated near St James’ Park, also hosted Beardsley on Sunday evening for Newcastle’s opening Premier League fixture of the campaign, a 2-2 draw against Liverpool that featured tributes to the late Kevin Keegan. Beardsley had previously delivered an emotional homage to the former manager.
Shark Club will stage An Evening with Peter Beardsley on September 24. The ex-England international will take part in a live interview at the venue.
He will recount experiences from his two stints at Newcastle during the 1980s and 1990s, sharing insights from his time on and around the pitch along with exclusive behind-the-scenes tales. The gathering will be restricted to 150 attendees, who will additionally have the opportunity to pose questions during a question-and-answer segment.
Beardsley certainly has plenty of material to discuss. After making his England debut in 1986, the playmaker earned 59 caps for his country. He featured in England’s 1986 World Cup squad and started the quarter-final against Argentina alongside Gary Lineker, a match remembered for Diego Maradona’s controversial ‘hand of God’ strike.
He subsequently achieved success at Liverpool, appearing 175 times and securing two First Division championships and an FA Cup, before moving on to Everton, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers. Kyran Woodcock, managing director at Shark Club Newcastle, described hosting the former star mere yards from the stadium as a tremendous opportunity.

With 2026 marking four decades since that memorable Argentina encounter, Beardsley could provide firsthand accounts of one of the most celebrated matches in World Cup folklore alongside numerous other captivating anecdotes.
Describing the ticketed occasion as unmissable, he encouraged those interested to secure their places promptly. Entry begins at £20 plus booking charges, with all tickets encompassing a light meal. The £25 tier includes a bottle of lager, while the premium option features a photograph with Beardsley.
A memorabilia display will operate throughout the evening, which runs from 7pm until 10.30pm and carries Guinness sponsorship alongside scratchcard competitions offering various prizes.
