Anthony Gordon bags two assists on Barcelona debut as fans rave

The ex-Newcastle United wide player Anthony Gordon completed a move to Barcelona during the close season and has already attracted considerable acclaim for his early displays at the Catalan club.

Gordon made an immediate impact during his first competitive appearance for Barcelona, prompting enthusiastic reactions from supporters. The former Magpies attacker had been finalised on registration papers just before Sunday’s La Liga fixture against Elche.

The English international completed his £69million switch to Barca earlier this summer and featured from the outset during a pre-season encounter in Basel. The 25-year-old caught the eye during a 5-2 victory for Hansi Flick’s team.

However, doubts emerged regarding whether his registration would be completed in time for the Elche match. These worries were dismissed when confirmation arrived on Saturday that Gordon, Rodri, Karim Adeyemi and Joao Cancelo had all been registered for the league fixture.

Gordon then delivered an impressive performance as Barcelona triumphed 5-0. The winger supplied two assists, with supporters on social media platform X expressing their admiration for his contribution.

One supporter wrote that Gordon had provided two assists within six minutes and that the club does not sign poor players.

Another noted that Gordon required merely two minutes to register his first official assist for the club, and just five minutes to achieve his first game with multiple assists in Blaugrana colours, describing it as a remarkable first appearance for the Englishman.

Additional comments described Gordon as an exceptional performer.

One supporter observed two assists in just three minutes and suggested the scale of Barcelona’s dominance should be appreciated.

Another commented that Gordon would integrate seamlessly into the squad because of his unselfish approach.

Gordon stated at his Barcelona presentation that once Barcelona emerged as a genuine possibility, there was never any doubt he would move. He explained that he had always wanted Barcelona and considers it the world’s largest club. He described the move as fulfilling childhood dreams and acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with joining such an institution, expressing his readiness to embrace the challenge and appreciation for those who previously wore the shirt.
