Newcastle goalkeeper coach Daniel Garcia leaves to join Aston Villa

Another staff member has departed St James’ Park after Newcastle United confirmed another change in the coaching setup.

Goalkeeper specialist Daniel Garcia has moved to Aston Villa, joining Unai Emery’s coaching staff at the Midlands club.

The Madrid-born coach, who came through the ranks at Rayo Vallecano before arriving at Newcastle in 2018, formed part of Eddie Howe’s squad that secured Carabao Cup glory in 2025. He progressed from the Academy goalkeeping department to the first-team setup in 2022.

Prior to this latest departure, Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches had all followed Howe through the exit door.

Garcia announced his new role on social media, stating he had become part of Aston Villa’s goalkeeping coaching team and expressed pride at joining the club as their season began.

Incoming Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle has assembled a fresh coaching lineup, bringing in Alexander Hauser and Engin Yanova as assistant coaches, Florens Koch as a coach, Maximilian Fischer and Steffen Konrad as coach analysts, and Alexander Bade as goalkeeping coach.

Jaissle has severed ties with the previous coaching setup almost entirely, with only the fitness coaches remaining within the club’s infrastructure. However, Dan Hodges, who was Howe’s trusted strength and conditioning specialist, has also left Newcastle.
