Former Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak experienced the hostility of the home supporters as he made his first return to St James’ Park since his £125m switch to Liverpool last summer.
Isak was still a Newcastle player when Liverpool visited Tyneside 12 months previously and was merely awaiting his move to Merseyside after requesting the transfer.
On this occasion, however, he was wearing Liverpool’s colours and required no reminder that he was not exactly popular in Newcastle – despite having scored the club’s most celebrated goal in recent history at Wembley in 2025 against the Merseyside team.
As Isak descended from the bus and approached the Milburn Stand entrance, he was met with loud jeers while entering the stadium, with all focus on him.
With his earphones in, he attempted to block out the crowd noise and moved past the assembled photographers and media representatives who were present to document one of the afternoon’s major storylines.
Jaissle’s appeal for backing of the current Newcastle squad may not have resonated given how Isak was received.

He considered the energy from the stands to be the most vital element, allowing the players to feel that support. He wanted the team to deliver their performance and play their style of football as Newcastle United fans would expect, with the aim of having a fantastic Sunday evening.
