The speculation surrounding Nick Woltemade’s future at St James’ Park has dominated discussion throughout the summer following a challenging inaugural campaign with Newcastle United during the 2025/26 term.
The German forward struggled to maintain form throughout the previous season, prompting questions about his position at the club.
Woltemade’s current valuation stands at approximately £74million, with uncertainty over whether he will remain on Tyneside.
The striker completed his move to St James’ Park last summer, joining from VfB Stuttgart in a deal worth £69million, with significant expectations accompanying his arrival.
Although Woltemade showed promise in the opening stages of the season, his performance levels deteriorated as the campaign progressed, ultimately concluding with just eight goals from 33 outings.
This inconsistent showing may have been partly influenced by Eddie Howe’s decision to deploy the 6ft6in target man in an attacking midfield role during sections of 2025/26, rather than relying on quality service from players such as Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga.
Following his underwhelming first season, the 24-year-old has attracted interest from clubs considering either permanent or loan moves, with German publication Leipziger Volkszeitung reporting that he would prefer a return to the Bundesliga should he depart.
Nevertheless, Newcastle would receive a substantial sum if they opt to sell Woltemade, with the CIES Football Observatory currently valuing him at roughly £74million.
The organisation calculates values using a margin of 7.5 percent above and below a player’s worth, alongside the purchasing power of potential buyers.
CIES also incorporates 100 percent of economic rights, inclusive of any add-ons, while applying the same inflation rate from the previous two transfer windows. The valuation method excludes potential buy-out clauses.
Consequently, Newcastle could demand a minimum of £74million for their striker this summer should they decide to allow his departure.
The news arrives as Newcastle prepare for their Premier League opening fixture against Liverpool on home soil on Sunday, with Alexander Isak anticipated to receive a hostile reception after his departure from the club roughly twelve months ago.
When the sides previously met at Tyneside, Isak remained technically part of the squad but had been removed from Howe’s first-team setup due to his pursuit of a transfer to Anfield.
