Fabian Schar has discussed various topics concerning Newcastle United as the new season approaches

Fabian Schar described it as regrettable that Eddie Howe departed from his position as Newcastle United head coach, sharing details about the strong bond of mutual confidence he established with the former Magpies manager.
Howe stepped down from his role as Newcastle manager at the conclusion of last month, concluding what stands as one of the most remarkable four-and-a-half year stretches any head coach has achieved at the club.
During his tenure, the team secured Champions League qualification on two occasions, reached two cup finals, and brought Newcastle’s 56-year wait for a major trophy to an end by clinching the Carabao Cup in 2025.
Schar proved instrumental in Howe’s achievements, and it was actually Howe who advocated strongly for the former Swiss international to commit to another campaign at St James’ Park when last season concluded.
The 34-year-old is preparing for his ninth season as a Newcastle player and will represent one of the most reliable presences amid significant changes to the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Club captain Bruno Guimaraes, alongside Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, have moved on to Arsenal, Tottenham and Barcelona respectively, while long-serving player Kieran Trippier also exited the club upon the expiration of his contract.
Although Schar expressed disappointment regarding Howe’s exit, he maintained that he possesses strong faith in the youthful additions the club has recruited, as well as incoming head coach Matthias Jaissle.
I have not worked with any other manager for a longer duration throughout my career than I did with Eddie, Schar informed Swiss outlet Blick. We cultivated a robust foundation of mutual trust. It is unfortunate he departed. He placed his belief in me. We also held one another in high regard beyond the sporting context.
That is simply the nature of football. Squads evolve. This has always been the case and will continue to be so. I maintain strong confidence in our abilities.
Schar made his comeback following a six-month absence due to an ankle complaint during pre-season preparations, and he expressed gratitude for being recovered and ready for selection once more.
Primarily, I feel thankful to be fully recovered from injury. I am aware that I do not have another decade of football remaining ahead of me, Schar continued.
