Newcastle United’s head coach Matthias Jaissle is still in the early stages of his tenure at St James’ Park.
The Magpies’ wide attacker Jacob Murphy has acknowledged that the club has experienced greater upheaval than anyone would have wished for during recent campaigns.
The 31-year-old playmaker stressed however that he holds the work Jaissle has been carrying out on the training pitch in very high regard as the German settles into his role with the Newcastle squad.
Jaissle took over from Eddie Howe as Newcastle’s head coach approximately a fortnight ago and is now getting ready for his inaugural Premier League match in charge when Liverpool arrive on Tyneside this weekend.
The German has recorded one victory, one draw and two defeats across his four pre-season fixtures but has already made a favourable impact on the Newcastle squad, with Murphy particularly taken with the new manager’s approach.
Murphy explained in the club’s official matchday programme that there had been more disruption than ideal across the past couple of seasons but that the focus now needed to be on restoring equilibrium and progressing toward an improved future.
The winger described Jaissle’s work as outstanding, noting that his attention to detail proved invigorating. Murphy pointed to a tactical approach centred around pressing and high energy, qualities he felt were already embedded in Newcastle’s character. He added that the players were absorbing fresh concepts and making adjustments to existing methods, which complemented the squad’s existing balance well. Murphy anticipated that continued work under the new coach would see these ideas fully develop and deliver results.
Regarding the coaching staff, Murphy expressed strong approval of their character, describing them as having excellent demeanour, transparency, and accessibility. He stated they had cultivated an excellent environment for learning. Murphy also commented favourably on the clarity of Jaissle’s communication and guidance, noting there was no ambiguity in his instructions.
Newcastle defender Fabian Schar has also offered positive remarks about Jaissle, sharing his views during an interview with Swiss publication Blick.
Schar described the coach as bursting with vitality and enthusiasm, noting his tendency to engage actively with players through dialogue and discussion. He highlighted Jaissle’s insistence on intense work and his practice of setting standards through personal conduct. Schar expressed that his overall impression of the new head coach had remained consistently favourable throughout.
