The Saudi Public Investment Fund, Newcastle United’s majority shareholders, published their 2025 yearly assessment recently, providing insight into operations at St James’ Park.
PIF’s governor and Magpies chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan disclosed the fund has launched a fresh strategy covering 2026 to 2030, having accomplished goals set during the preceding 2021-25 period.
Al-Rumayyan outlined plans to enhance the fund’s worldwide standing through collaborations with the ATP tennis circuit, Formula E series, and the PIF Global golf competition, deepening its sporting investments.
The 2025 document also devoted particular attention to Newcastle United, highlighting the club’s Carabao Cup triumph and advancement to the Champions League during the 2024/25 season.
The report noted they are continuing to strengthen its leadership structure, noting the hires of David Hopkinson as chief executive and Ross Wilson as sporting director, and their goal to broaden the club’s international commercial reach.
The document noted that in 2021, PIF led an investment consortium to acquire 100 per cent of Newcastle United Football Club. Since the acquisition, the club has strengthened both its sporting performance and commercial capabilities, achieving notable progress on and off the pitch. Newcastle United Football Club achieved an historic milestone in 2025 by winning the EFL Cup, securing the club’s first major domestic trophy in 70 years. The club also delivered a strong Premier League performance, finishing fifth in the 2024/25 season and qualifying for the Champions League for the 2025/26 season, while continuing to strengthen its leadership structure and expand its global commercial profile.
Although spending restrictions have prevented PIF from lavishing funds on Newcastle in the manner Chelsea and Manchester City enjoyed following their earlier takeovers this century, they maintain their dedication to the venture remains steadfast.
