Newcastle United’s principal investors, the Public Investment Fund, released its 2025 yearly report on Tuesday, which featured remarks from Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
The Magpies’ chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan detailed the future direction for the sovereign wealth fund after their annual report publication. The document showed that the fund’s yearly total shareholder return dating back to 2017 stood at 5.8% by the close of 2025, compared to 7.2% at the end of the previous year.
Nevertheless, earnings increased by 9% to reach $120 billion throughout 2025, while net income surged to more than double, hitting $17 billion. Domestic investments comprised 76% of total assets under management, with overseas investments and treasury making up the remaining 20% and 4% correspondingly.
In his report statement, Yasir Al-Rumayyan outlined forthcoming plans, indicating that as PIF commences its next decade of expansion and success, guided by its 2026-2030 Strategy, priority shifts toward responsibly developing the full capabilities of its key assets.
With strengthened foundations, increased scope and a more established portfolio, PIF aims to boost returns, encourage greater private sector involvement and broaden its international footprint.
This next phase centres on large-scale implementation and value creation across three primary portfolios to generate fresh prospects, reinforce economic stability and determine the future direction of Saudi Arabia’s economy.
Chronicle Live has learned that PIF maintains its dedication to the club and restated their future ambitions at Newcastle’s yearly Matfen Hall gathering in May.
However, when questioned about any developments regarding the stadium or training facility, Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson, accompanied by two PIF representatives, responded that there was currently no update, noting a deliberate silence on the matter.
Regarding the training ground, Hopkinson stated that progress is being made swiftly, with discussions having taken place that very day but not yet concluded.
He expressed confidence that an announcement concerning the training ground would follow shortly. One of the considerations occupying his thoughts recently involved determining how to balance openness with transactional confidentiality.
He acknowledged that journalists pursue answers on behalf of their audiences and that the club wishes to keep stakeholders informed, yet stressed that finalising negotiations is not the appropriate moment to disclose detailed plans.
Completely revealing intentions regarding Leazes Terrace would have fundamentally conflicted with the ability to complete that transaction successfully. The club intends to purchase land for its future training complex, but providing extensive specifics about the purchase price and precise location would prove counterproductive.
The goal is to be open with supporters, though this does not extend to granting access to every component of the overall strategy.
